2013 JCI Vice President visit to Mauritius

01 Aug

nanaJCI Mauritius had the honour to welcome the 2013 JCI Vice President of Africa and Middle East, Senator Abraham Nana Kow Acquaye, who was on official visit to Maurtius from the 20th to the 24th February 2013. The main objectives of this visit were to strengthen JCI Mauritius and the Local Chapters by holding training sessions and meetings. The Local Chapters were also encouraged to pay courtesy visits to our sponsors and partners and further our partnership with them.

Therefore, 2013 JCI Curepipe Local Board Members had the immense pleasure to host the Vice President for half a day and whereby he had the opportunity to meet and thank JCI Curepipe partners and further our collaboration with them.

The first meeting was set up with Jane Valls, the National Cordinator of Women In Networking (WIN) and Adarsh Goburdhan, the Men Against Violence (MAV) Project Champion in the morning at Port-Louis. JCI Curepipe and JCI Mauritius were among the Founder Members of WIN. MAV works on awareness programmes about Gender Based Violence (GBV), its causes and consequences, as well as activities to reduce GBV in Mauritius. Our expectations from this meeting was to work closer with the MAV Core Team to help in the fight against gender violence and help advancing UN MDG3.

Following the meeting at Port Louis, we went to visit our partners, namely, T1 Diams and Link To Life at Vacoas. Those two partners have contributed a lot to the success of the JCI Curepipe Health Campaign: Take Care Lepep and we have since then been working together on some activities. After a very fruitful meeting at both offices, whereby Local President Yudish Ramsaha explained about the JCI Active Citizen Framework and the way forward for the Health Campaign 2013, a Certificate of Gratitude was presented to them by the 2013 JCI Vice President.

After the fruitful meetings, the 2013 JCI Vice President was hosted for lunch by the JCI Curepipe Local Board and Local President Yudish Ramsaha presented a brief of the 2013 JCI Curepipe Plan of Action. It was indeed a great moment we of experiences and knowledge  sharing about JCI and how to use the tools provided to us to be better citizens and to create a better Mauritius.
