Dear Readers,
I am proud to share my message as Local President of JCI Curepipe as we complete 35 years of achievements, togetherness, bonding and impact.
2019 has been an eventful year for our organisation and by hosting the 2019 JCI Africa and The Middle East Conference, JCI Curepipe has outshined itself through the hardwork and dedication of its members, aspiring members and senators. Post conference, we have been gearing to Accelerate Transformation as per JCI Strategic Plan 2019-2023.
To start with, we have embarked on an Active Citizens Framework (ACF) project to address the barriers of adoption of green actions amongst Mauritians. A survey has been carried which shall be followed by focus groups with different stakeholders. In addition, on 21st September 2019 on International Peace Day, we have launched Kids for Peace Mauritius with four ngos being affiliated; Association Ensam, Anges du Soleil, HEAR Institute and Ptit Momes. The objective is to inculcate leadership and community service amongst kids. We have also been working in close collaboration with stakeholders in Curepipe to implement Neighbourhood Watch; two awareness sessions, one workshop, three data collection and two meetings with coordinators have been carried out.
Since start of the year, JCI Curepipe family has also been growing due to our recruitment campaigns carried out namely the Introduce A Buddy Event and Recruitment Drive carried out in three different areas around the island. Our number of aspiring members stand at 17 while we are at 36 members. We carried out a motivational campaign on ‘JCI Taught Me’ featuring our members and aspiring members.
The third quarter has also witnessed the start of our multi twinning project amongst four local organisations in Indian Ocean; JCI Curepipe (Mauritius), JCI St Denis (Reunion), JCI Vohtr’Irivo and JCI Illionarivo (Madagascar). Each local organisation has resorted to carrying on needs analysis to identify the common project that can be carried out. Following which we look forward to more sharing programmes and working on regional level to create impact. At local level, we have collaborated with JCI Quatre Bornes and JCI Beau Bassin/Rose Hill for a joint members meeting entitled ‘Impact Together’ which aims at centralising our community projects and to join forces to create impact.
To end with, I would like to highlight on the different innovative initiatives that the 2019 Local Board has brought forward contributing to the five pillars. I would like to extend my gratitude to my local board members for their utmost commitment, for shouldering important role for the conference and for serving to their best of their abilities until now. Kudos goes to our members, senators and aspiring members who are always supporting our initiatives and who have been representing JCI Curepipe during JCI Mauritius events.
Let’s bring forward the same spirit as we shall enter a new decade in two months time.
Keep Shining.
Yours in JCI Spirit,
Karishma Ansaram
2019 Local President
