Take on the Challenge: 21 Days 21 Green Actions

15 Jul

The environment project, The Challenge: 21 Days, 21 Green Actions, was launched as an online event through the Facebook page of JCI Curepipe from the 5th to the 26th of June 2018. The participants were requested to share their green actions on a regular basis on the page to collect points and get a chance to win the rewards.

We had an excellent response from various participants. Besides the posts created by the project team, there ideas were also shared by the participants, which certainly helped to meet our aim; to create awareness. Our page had 22 active participants, 110 followers and 162 green posts were shared. Very interesting ideas were soon flooding in such as – Harvesting rain water, converting a bamboo into a toothbrush and tips on efficient energy use of appliances being just some of them.

We also had the opportunity to go to our Kids for Peace Chapter Association Ensam (Lakaz Zen) Pointe aux Sables and share with the children some interesting facts about the environment. Besides, we are proud to mention that the project was registered with the United Nations Environment Programme and showed our support through the hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution, which was their main campaign this year.

To reinforce the interaction among the participants and people who feel concerned with the environment, we organised an Award Ceremony, where we had the honour of hosting a panel session with panelists from the environment sector, and most importantly announce the winners. The evening was followed by a panel discussion on ‘The Challenges for Greener Societies’ by Mr Dewendra Dookna from United Nations Association Mauritius and Miss Meghna Raghoobar, a socio-environmental entrepreneur.
