Mothers’ Day at Foyer Trochetia

15 Jul

Found in the north of the island, Foyer Trochetia is the abode of several elderly people with severe disabilities. The shelter is jointly managed by the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Reform Institutions and Arya Sabha Mauritius. On the 12th of May 2018, JCI Curepipe visited the shelter with the aim of celebrating mother’s day with the residents.

AB-In Bev (Anheuser-Busch InBev) Ltd was our main sponsor for the event by donating special gift packs and food items for the residents, while our Kids for Peace Chapter Association Ensam provided handmade cards for the elderly.

The event kicked off with a visit in the ladies section and the narration of the ‘Pieter Both’ story by member Priya Tiwari; which was followed by a conversation with the ladies, where the skills of our members of speaking bhojpuri were put to the test.

While the conversation with the ladies filled our heart with warmth and brought a smile to our faces, the men and teenagers of the shelter were not far behind. A grandfather left us spellbound with a Christmas song and another mesmerized us with an Indian oldie. The highlight of the event was meeting the disabled teenagers and seeing their creativity in making crafts and dancing to the beats of a song.

It was a fruitful day where we went with the intention of helping the residents, but returned with with lots of blessings and an unmatchable experience.
