Working for the community… with the community – Our Peace is Possible Project

15 Apr

On January 21st, JCI Curepipe launched part of its ACF Project by organising morning workshops for parents and their kids of Lakaz Zen, Pointe aux Sables.  JCI Curepipe and Association Ensam Kids for Peace chapter were the stakeholders who clearly presented a curriculum to help kids rediscover Peace and put into action the Peace Pledge.

The parents were presented with the concept of Kids for Peace and they responded with great enthusiasm about activities and projects proposed.  We had 15 parents turn up to the workshop and they shared about some anti-social behaviours that they look out for and discourage among their kids.  They also expressed what they think a good kid should be and shared their good parenting practices.

Following the parents’ workshop, the kids were given a glimpse of the Kids for Peace events through videos and discussions.   They had a good laugh watching the viral ‘Kid President’ YouTube star having fun being a kid.

Independence Day at Lakaz Zen

On March 11th, JCI Curepipe celebrated the 49th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius with Association Ensam Kids for Peace chapter.  There were 23 children gathered to participate in fun activities.  They sang the Mauritius national anthem and understood how we should want our country to be, beautiful, fragrant, peaceful and united.  They stepped into history to remember the people who fought for our independence.

The audience was also comprised of the chapter facilitators, Association Ensam President, representatives from JCI Senate, JCI Mauritius, JCI City Plus, JCI Port Louis and JCI Curepipe board members.  They benefited from an afternoon of cultural display by the Kids for Peace chapter.  In traditional clothes, they performed several choreographed Sega dances.  Kids also took to the stage to sing an original song accompanied by guitar.   Kids then proceeded to the tasting and refreshments from a selection of traditional foods and drinks from Mauritius.  We were also proud to present to Association Ensam with a framed Certificate of Recognition as an affiliate Kids for Peace chapter welcoming them to the international family of Kids for Peace.
