I was inducted recently as new member of JCI Curepipe during the visit of 2017 JCI Vice President Mathew Mutavayi in Mauritius.
My first official meeting with JCI was in late 2016 when I was called for a recruitment presentation by the local chapter. The first thing I noticed was the friendly approach of the members present and their efforts to make one feel welcome and at ease. Following on from that I attended the pre-requisite JCI induction courses for any aspiring member. These were quite interesting as not only were they delivered by young, dynamic and passionate JCI members but they gave me an overview and understanding of the Creed, Mission and Vision of the JCI- which appeal to me.
Over the months prior to induction, I also got to participate in other JCI activities. I attended the 2016 JCI AMESA Senators Summit as my first JCI event and got to attend a few local Chapter meetings where I learnt about internal procedures and met other members and friends not only locally but also from abroad for example from Madagascar. These were interesting as one could meet and share experiences with people from various backgrounds and countries all united by a common vision and aim- to work together to create sustainable impact for a better society for tomorrow.
In today’s world, I believe that the promotion of Peace is very important and should be encouraged as it leads to understanding. In view of the Peace is Possible Campaign of the JCI, I attended the candle lighting in Curepipe and also helped and participated in the Peace Forum: Peace through Dignity at Carnegie Library – 22nd October 2016. I was also on the Organising Committee as Project Secretary of the LOM Night Event in December 2016 and currently I am team member and involved in the 2017 The Outstanding Young Person Award (TOYP) – National flagship project which is being hosted by JCI Curepipe this year.
More recently, I also represented JCI Curepipe as one of the team members at the 2017 JCI National Debate Championship. It was a great, interesting, fun and enriching experience as we got to work with other friends, promote friendship and got to discuss and talk about important topics and current affair issues. The atmosphere and support of one and all was great. I look forward to being part of this young, fresh and dynamic organisation which aims to not only provide a platform for development but also aims to promote friendship, sustainable positive impact in society and brotherhood.
