As one of my university friends once said: “Public speaking is the best expression of art. It requires a journey of practice and search to master how to communicate verbally and non-verbally.”
To improve oneself in public speaking, you require that drive to delve deep inside of you and search for your ideals. Public speaking is sharing and sharing is caring. To be able to share your best words, you will have to learn best words and this is grasped through reading.
Read and listen everyday to enriching chunks of knowledge to improve on your vocabulary and delivery.
Irrespective of the subject matter, simplify your message so that even someone with no background in that area can understand you. Think big. Think of maximum impact.
Hold your ground when you are speaking. Vary your tone and let your heart speak through your emotions and facial expressions.
Start your speech by telling the audience what you are going to tell them. Tell them what you have to tell them. End by summarising what you have just told them. Conclude with a bang; either through a call for action or a message for life.
Public speaking is sharing. Talk for the betterment of others not for you.
May you shine JCI Leaders and master the art of public speaking. 🙂
