Dear Readers,
It gives me immense pleasure to write a few words for the 2nd issue of JCI Curepipe’s Jaycee Eye for 2010. The year has been full of challenges for JCI Curepipe and I can proudly say that till now JCI Curepipe has lived up to its reputation. While the first 4-5 months started with mostly Individual Development projects and a Business Development project, the last few months were mostly devoted to Community Development Projects. JCI Curepipe held its Health Campaign on Saturday 17th July 2010, at Shoprite. The Health Campaign constituted essentially of a Blood Donation for the Thalassaemia and Haemophilia Association and a free Dental check up for 50 children from SOS Villages. JCI Curepipe reiterated its Handisports with the theme “UNIS PAR LE SPORT” which is an annual athletic event for the disabled children between 12 and 18 years old on the 22nd August 2010 at Maryse Justin Stadium. An amateur cycling club is being set up by JCI Curepipe and some members have started training on Sunday mornings. 6 members from JCI Curepipe participated in the CIM 40km cycle race which was organized to help raise funds for 6 children who cannot be operated in Mauritius. Members are also planning to participate in the 100km Deutsche Bank cycle race which will be held on 10th of October 2010. It is also a fund raising event for the benefits of charities in Mauritius.
In the beginning of the year in my President message, I had mentioned the importance of the members in the organization. I want members to realize that this organization is as relevant today as it was in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, and so on. But we cannot be complacent. We must be vigilant and ensure through our leadership that Junior Chamber International moves forward, maintains its position of strength in terms of what it offers, and goes up to that next level. As members of JCI, we should realize that we do change the world. What we do all over this world makes a significant difference. Each member is never JUST a member. Each member should feel that he/she is the most important member of this wonderful organization. I hope by now, members of JCI Curepipe have realized their potential and will use the opportunities provided by JCI to strive and become better leaders and better people.
I would like to end by encouraging JCI Curepipe members to be more proactive. Participate not only in JCI Curepipe events, but also in other JCI Mauritius Local Organizations’ event and most importantly in JCI Mauritius events. Contribute to the success of the national organization for it is the national organization that is the glue that holds it up together. Come up with new and innovative ideas to help the organization grow. Make the most of the experience that each one of you will receive in participating in JCI activities.
Warm Regards,
Prashant Lallah
2010 JCI Curepipe President
